Favorite Event

Here we are again! Its Wrinkle In Time again. This time, I have to write my favorite event in chapter four and why. I'm still not sure yet. Maybe, the 'dark' thing.

Well, my favorite part in Chapter four is when they describe the place where they tessered to, Uriel, the third planet if the star of Malak in the spiral nebula Messier 101.

"They were standing in a sunlit field, and the air around them was moving with the delicious fragrance that comes only on the rarest of spring days when the sun's touch is gentle and the apple blossoms are just beginning to unfold. -was golden with light. The grasses were a tender new green, and scattered about were tiny, multicolored flowers. -mountain reaching so high into the sky that its peak was lost in a crown of puffy white clouds. From the trees at the base of the mountain came a sudden singing of birds. There was an air of ineffable peace and joy all around her that her heart's wild thumping slowed."

I love this part because the description makes the place the absolute epitome of peace. Here's another description of the place.

" They left the fertile fields and flew across a great plateau of granite-like rock shaped into enormous monoliths. These had a definite, rhythmic form, but they were not statues; they were not like Meg had ever seen before, and she wondered if they had been made by wind and weather, by the formation of this earth, or if they were a creation of the beings like the one on which she rode."

This describes another place, that is not very peaceful, but breathtaking beautiful. Here is another place that they encounter on Uriel.

"They left the great granite plain and flew over a garden even more beautiful than anything in a dream. In it were gathered many of the creatures like the one Mrs. Whatsit had become, some lying among the flowers, some swimming in a broad, crystal river that flowed through the garden, some moving in and out of the trees. They were making music, music that came not only from their throats but from the movement of their great wings as well."

This is more calming and peaceful with looks to die for, and Madeleine describes the places perfectly. This is why this is my favorite part.

Wrinkle In Time - Favorite Character

In our class we're reading "Wrinkle In Time" by Madeleine L'Engle. I read this last year, but I dont mind because I love it. We have to write whos your fav character, why, blah blah blah, stuff like that. Since shes reading our blog, Ill write here. : )

My favorite character is Charles Wallace Murry.

He is young, about 5-ish. People think he is slow so they either pity him or insult him. He doesnt care and he is the opposite of what they think. He is a genius and kind and seems to read his mother's and his older sister Meg's mind. He can keep up an intelligent conversation with people he likes and is mature. One example is when Meg comes down from her room, scared and Charles is waiting for her, even heating up the milk for her already. He also knows his mom would come down because he heated up extra milk. Charles is 5 and his word of the day is "exclusive". Meg and their mom trust Charles Wallace enough to use a knife to make sandwiches. Here is a snippet from the book that reflects on Charles Wallace's maturity and intelligence, from Meg's point of view.

"How did Charles Wallace always know about her? How could he always tell? He knew never knew- or seemed to care- what Dennys or Sandy was thinking. It was his mother's mind, and Meg's that he probed with frightening accuracy. Was it because people were a little afraid of him when they whispered about the Murry's youngest child? '- the baby boy certainly arent all there.' It was true that Charles Wallace seldom spoke when anybody was around, so that many people thought that he never learned how to talk. -people looked at him and clucked, shaking their heads sadly. -Charles Wallace began to speak, suddenly, with none of the usual baby preliminaries, using entire sentences."

This clearly shows how deep and mature Charles Wallace is. Here is another excerpt from the book that shows Charles scolding an adult.

"'No,' Charles said. Now you musn't give in to her mother, or I shall be very angry.' 'Mrs. Whatsit,' Charles demanded severly, 'why did you take Mrs. Buncombe's sheets?' 'You must return them at once.' ' It was very wrong of you.' 'If you needed sheets so badly you should've asked me.'"

Here is a quote Charles Wallace quoted in the story.

"The road in hell is paved with good intentions."

He shouldn't even know about that quote in his age, nevermind knowing what it means. He shows intelligence way beyond his age and is unaffected to what others say about him. He is kind and can handle unusual situations. This is why I like Charles Wallace Murry.
